Eugene is a free spirit. Like the wind, he's very easy going. He's open minded and just a compassionate soul in general. He loves to strike up conversations with strangers and enjoys company. He's naturally curious and loves to know what's going on. He likes to live a pleasurable life, but this doesn't necessarily mean big spending for him. He likes to flirt innocently with everyone. The only times he takes things seriously  is when there's an emergency or in some kind of fight or conflict. Even then however, he won't become angry or anxious, just focused. He's an extreme advocate for freedom of speech and liberty in general. Nothing pushes his buttons more than censorship or coercion / oppression.

Eugene was born to a family of farmers. In the farm, he would help out his father in the fields and play with his siblings all day long. They attended church and were very involved in the small community. Entering adolescence, Eugene became interested in more intellectual subjects. He would spend afternoons reading his mother’s books, and began learning how to play the piano at church. His father didn’t like this very much. He would give Eugene more chores and work, to try to persuade his interests. But if anything, it made the young Zorua appreciate even more his new hobbies.

At the age of 17, he wanted nothing more to do with the place. He dreamed of going to the big cities and experiencing things. One afternoon while running errands, a man walked around town the announcing that the circus had arrived to the town over. Curious, he ran home, got on his horse and went. He arrived at a very lively place and he already loved it. He saw the freak shows, games, acrobatic acts, and animals. He ended up going back to the place every day that week. The talent got to know him and called him Jean for short. When the week was up, the circus announced their departure and Jean was heartbroken. In a bit of an impulse, Eugene made the decision that morning, that if the circus was leaving, he was going with it. With help from his brother, he went to last show and stayed afterwards, sneaking into one of the carts and hiding. He smiled as the caravan began moving, happy to leave his monotonous life.

Eugene traveled along with the circus for 5 years. In these years he got to experience all of the things he’d dreamed off. He visited big cities and small towns. He tried different jobs all around the circus, even announcing the coming of the circus, like the man who first caught his attention. One day, the company makes a stop near a very big city. The director announced that this was the circus’ last stop before it was disbanded due to lack of funds. He directed Eugene to go to the local radio station to promote the final week. At the station, they allowed him to make the advertisement himself on air. He thought it was exciting that multitudes of people could hear him. Throughout the week, Jean visited the radio station to run the ad, but also visited many places like the cafés, department stores and lounges. On the last day, the boss at the station offered Jean a job. She said he was a natural, and seeing how he was going to be jobless, he might as well try it. Unsure, he went back to the circus, only to find out that due to the publicity, the circus was going to continue for at least another 4 stops. He spoke with the director about his dilemma. He loved the circus but he also found the city fascinating, and the job at the station was a great opportunity. The director told him to watch the last performance and then make his choice, and that whatever choice he made, they’d support it.

Jean eventually picked to stay in the city. They had a farewell party after the show and when the morning came, he helped pack up the caravan. He grabbed his own belongings and waved the carts good bye. With a bittersweet taste, he turned around and faced the city, ready for what it had in store for him.
